No need to steer for once, we put the driver on. We are at 80° south, heading for Faro for a 24-hour stopover. A scent of cherry blossoms comes to us from the coast. It smells like spring! We arrive in Faro in the early afternoon. Florian and Marine unearth the annex from the depths of the rear trunk and try to assemble the floors. After a good one-hour sweat, the dinghy is swollen, but without the floors, too bad. We arrive at the anchorage. The maneuver is very simple, just look at this diagram to understand it:

04/25

 ~ Cap to Gibraltar  ~

04/27

We deflate the dinghy, we play tetris with Marine to store the rear trunk and here we go again my kiki! There, we have 10 days of navigation at full throttle to arrive on time in the Camargue for MedSeaLitter. In the evening, we see a whale, the first we have ever seen for all of us. A real joy !

04/26

It's been a while since we took a shower and at anchor, there is no toilet. We decide to shampoo ourselves on deck. The weather is nice and warm, and even if the sea water is a bit chilly, we rinse off while bathing.

So it takes about 40 min but we have the best place!

04/28

10 a.m. on deck, we can see the European AND African coasts, especially since we jibed. Florian brings us the smile "we are arriving in the Mediterranean tonight".

04/29

The night is freezing. After crossing the Strait of Gibraltar under the sun, the rain is falling in large drops, we have a dingo current and 15 knots of wind downwind and about fifteen cargo ships on the horizon. One of them rushes at us at full speed. Nice scare. We spend a rotten night and Marine is very grumpy when we wake her up. In short, our first approach to the Mediterranean is not the foot.

Zero Energy Rating

We are very energy efficient on board the boat: we only have electricity thanks to the batteries. And to recharge them: either we put on the engine, or the wind turbine and the solar panels produce energy, which was not easy to manage this week. Especially when we need to recharge our navigation devices, or our electronic devices for science (Gyroplastic buoy, camera). So we plan ahead, we do this in advance, and especially in turn. Which makes us fully aware of all the energy we spend at home when we're not careful !
